Coach Spotlight: Donte Burt, Men’s Basketball

Image

Meet Donte Burt, Blackhawk’s new Men’s Basketball Coach.

Coach Burt is one of six new coaches at Blackhawk, supporting the college's new sports, including men’s golf, coed clay target shooting, women’s volleyball, coed bowling, and men’s and women’s basketball.

Originally from Madison, Coach Burt played basketball and football at both Madison West High School and Madison College. He then played semi-pro football before transitioning to coaching.

His motivation for coaching comes from his enjoyment of watching his players grow, many of them going on to play at the college level. With 10 years of experience coaching basketball—from first grade through 17U Varsity—and seven years of coaching football, Coach Burt brings a wealth of experience to Blackhawk's new athletics program.

Coach Burt said he’s hopeful that student-athletes choose Blackhawk Technical College to be part of an exciting, growing program. He is dedicated to creating a strong community where they can excel and is committed to building a solid community where they can thrive.

His coaching philosophy is straightforward: "Get a little better every day."

Coach Burt practices this philosophy with his players by working on their skills until they become muscle memory. By identifying each player's strengths and weaknesses, he can place them in positions to succeed, he said.

Even with a lifelong passion for sports, Coach Burt emphasizes the importance of balancing academics and athletics. He will stay aware of his athletes' academic situations, help them when needed, and hold them accountable individually and as a team, he said.
