Aaron Dobbs Leads Blackhawk’s Women’s Basketball Team
“I have been coaching my entire adult life.”
That’s what Blackhawk Technical College’s new Head Coach for the Talons Women’s Basketball Team, Aaron Dobbs, said when asked what drew him to the role. The coach is looking forward to his first season with the lady Talons.
A native of Evansville, Dobbs was recruited by Athletic Director Nile Finney. Dobbs said he wants the Talons team to win a conference championship. He intends to focus on player development, competitiveness, and providing players with a fun, rewarding experience.
“You might have only one shot. Not everyone can play the game at this level. So, go for it,” he said.
His coaching résumé includes experience at nearly every level—from youth leagues to elite high school travel teams. He has coached both boys' and girls' AAU and travel basketball, helping develop players across a wide range of skill levels and age groups. Dobbs served as the Varsity Assistant Girls' Basketball Coach at Evansville High School for four seasons and is currently in his fourth year as a Varsity Assistant on the high school football team, where he also serves as the JV Defensive Coordinator. He previously spent a season coaching middle school football.
Beyond the field and court, Dobbs has made a lasting impact on the community. He served as President of the Evansville Athletic Hall of Fame for seven years and took the initiative to build a full-court basketball gym to give local athletes more opportunities to train and play. His commitment to youth sports is reflected in his incredible workload, including coaching over 100 games in a single year.
Dobbs graduated from Evansville High School and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. In addition to the Women’s Basketball Team, he coaches varsity and junior varsity high school football. He has a wife, a daughter, and a son at home.
