Sports Roundup: Week of Aug. 24

Blackhawk Technical College’s women’s volleyball team took on the Western Technical College Cavaliers in their first home game on Aug. 26. Despite a solid effort, they came up short, losing the match 0-3 with scores of 15-25, 17-25 and 12-25. Haley White and Aviana Hinkel each had standout performances, according to Coach Brandy Salonga.

On Aug. 29, the ladies traveled to the Harper Tri-Match Tournament at Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. They were defeated 11-25, 2-25 and 8-25 by Elgin Community College despite hard efforts by Carly Castellanos and Shauna Rowin-Fox. Castellanos, Rowin-Fox and Katie Klassy then led the charge against Harper College, but the Talons fell 9-25, 10-25 and 7-25.

The next match is at home on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. when the Talons take on the Wilbur Wright College Rams in the Public Safety Center on the Beloit-Janesville Campus.
