Talons Roundup: Golf Competition Shortened Due to Weather

On Aug. 21, the Talons golfers traveled to Park Hills Golf Course in Freeport, Illinois, to compete in the Highland 36 tournament. Normally, this tournament is the longest of the year for the Talons. Due to poor weather, however, it was abbreviated. After three separate weather delays, the tournament was shortened to an 18-hole event despite players completing approximately 30 holes of competition. 

The Talons, along with their competition, completed 12 holes in Round 2 of the tournament before the stoppage. The team finished at +59, which was good for 16th place out of 19 teams from 15 colleges.

Coach Nick Hagen said, "Our team showed great composure today, with planning to play 36 holes and adding additional time with the weather delays. We played a solid first 18, and it was just unfortunate the day was shortened, as our guys had good rounds going. We were getting better as the day went on, and several college career low scores were in sight."

Koen Lueck led the Talons with an 82 for the tournament (tied for 43rd place). Cody Watkins shot 86 (tied for 68th), and Ryan Daschner shot 88 (tied for 78th). Illinois Central College came away with the top spot at +11.
