Women’s Golf
The Talons women golfers competed Sept. 22 at Clash at the Creek at the Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris, Illinois. Hosted by Joliet Junior College, the tournament offered the women to play the course for the first time.
Lexi Schmidt, who ended 40 over par and tied for 48th place, said, “Playing at Nettle Creek for the first time was really fun! There were so many obstacles that you really had to think through how you’d play it."
McKenna Haenel, who finished 48 over par, said, "I really liked the Nettle Creek golf course! It was very beautiful. I would definitely play there again!"
Coach Nick Hagen said, "I got to see plenty of solid golf shots from McKenna and Lexi today. They both are good golfers. It's always fun to coach out there and watch our golfers compete."
This wraps up the golf action for this season.
Men’s Golf
Blackhawk’s men’s golf team also competed at Clash at the Creek at the Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris, Illinois. The team finished in seventh place with a total of 318.
Ryan Daschner led the Talons with a top 20 finish, firing a round of 78 (tied for 19th place) that included three birdies.
Daschner said, "The course just fits my play style well, and knowing that I can shoot good there gives me confidence to play well.”
Cody Watkins, Sawyer Dominy and Koen Lueck finished tied for 26th place with scores of 80. Notably, Watkins finished eight strokes below his tournament season scoring average.
Watkins said, "I was able to play consistently for a whole round and showed off everything I was working on in practice for the last couple months."
Coach Hagen said, "If everyone on the team cuts just three strokes each from the scores, we then finish in second place. To me, that's very exciting, and getting sub-320 was big for us."
The competition was the final one for this season. And for the Talons’ top golfer, Wyatt Marshall, it was his last as a Talon. He finished 16 over par and tied for 45th place.
"My favorite memory is being able to spend time with the new friends that I made through the program," Marshall said.
Women’s Volleyball
Blackhawk Technical College’s women’s volleyball team traveled on Sept. 22 to face Highland Community College in Freeport, Illinois. Carly Castellanos, Lilly Garcia, Bailey Wall and Katie Klassy fought hard, but the Talons fell to the Cougars 7-25, 11-25 and 16-25.
On Sept. 25, they were scheduled to face the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. However, the match against the Lancers was postponed.
Next up, the Talons compete in a tri-match tournament at Olive Harvey College in Chicago on Oct. 3.
