Women’s Basketball
The Talons Women's Basketball team played at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, Illinois, on Thursday, Nov. 6. They fell to the Eagles 58-78.
Arrianna Eubanks scored 19 points, Cassie Cooley had 16, and Gracie Schmidt added 15, including four three-pointers.
“We had the game within seven points in the fourth quarter before multiple players fouled out of the game,” Coach Aarons Dobbs said.
On Saturday, Nov. 8, the women traveled to Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, to play the Gogebic Community College Samsons. The Talons brought home their first win, 58-48. Eubanks had 15 points, Nevayah House shot for 17 points, and Shelbi Marx drained 14, including nine in the first quarter alone.
“The Talons held a strong three-point shooting team to zero makes,” Dobbs said. “We played great team defense.”
Next up, the team travels to Elgin Community College on Nov. 11.
Bowling
The Talons Bowling team traveled to Rockford over the weekend for the Leatherneck Classic. The Talons, under the guidance of Coach Mike Bennett, placed 36th out of 40 teams.
Results for the singles event, which included 456 total participants:
- Karson Schumacher placed 118th, 923 pin count, 184 average
- Shawn Houfe: 183rd, 810 pin count, 162 average
- Trevor Larson: 194th, 798 pin count, 159 average
- Donaven Merritt: 200th, 787 pin count, 157 average
- Sam Budzien: 269th, 660 pin count, 132 average
- Total pin count: 6,366
The nationwide tournament featured teams from nearly a dozen different states and was held at four bowling alleys.
Looking ahead, the team will travel to Addison, Illinois, on Dec. 6-7 for the Warhawk Open.
Men’s Basketball
The Talons traveled to Illinois Valley Community College on Thursday, Nov. 6, where they were narrowly defeated, 85-77. Following that loss, the Talons dropped their fourth game in a row, falling to Gogebic Community College on Saturday, Nov. 8, in Wisconsin Dells, 85-79.
The men travel to Wauwatosa on Nov. 12 to take on Bryant & Stratton College. On Nov. 15, they play away at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Illinois.
