Talons Sports Roundup for Week of Jan. 19: Bowling and Basketball Results

Bowling

The Talons bowlers competed in the Great Lakes Bowling Conference III at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, Illinois, on Jan. 24-25. The team placed 12th out of 21 teams with a total pinfall of 6,924. There were 169 bowlers competing. The Talons are coached by Michael Bennett.

  • Karson Schumacher: 29th place, 199 average
  • Trevor Larson: 62nd place, 169 average
  • Shawn Houfe: 112th place, 168 average
  • Donaven Merritt: 114th place, 164 average
  • Makenna Barry: 125th place, 140 average
  • Sam Budzien: 133rd place, 165 average

Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball team traveled to Waubonsee Community College on Jan. 24. “The Talons never gave up,” Coach Aaron Dobbs said. “They cut a 24-point lead to seven late in the fourth quarter, but just ran out of time.” The team lost 72-87.

Kamille Thomas led the scoring with 23 points; Jazzanay Seymore scored 19 points, had 12 rebounds and eight assists; and Cassie Cooley put up 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Next up, the team heads to Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois on Thursday, Jan. 29. On Saturday, Jan. 31, the team heads to DuPage, Illinois, to take on College of DuPage.

Men’s Basketball

The men’s basketball team also played Waubonsee Community College on Jan. 24. Kwame Hawkins led the Talons in scoring with 16 points. Jeramiyah McAllister contributed 15 points and snagged seven rebounds. Davion Bland added 11 points and three steals. The Talons could not outscore the Chiefs, however, losing 109-77.

The next matchup is Saturday, Jan. 31, when the team travels to play College of DuPage.
