The Talons Women’s Volleyball team played away at Wilbur Wright College on Saturday, Sept. 13, winning 25-11, 25-14, 19-25, and 25-14. Americus Pomplun, Maddy Lucero, and Carly Castellano were standout contributors, according to Coach Brandy Salonga.
In another away match against Joliet Junior College, however, the team started strong but fell with scores of 25-17, 25-27, 21-25, 25-21, and 10-15. Salonga shared that Shelbi Marx, Cassie Cooley, Jada Anderson, and Mikaela Hoffman had good games.
The Talons, who are currently 6-5 overall and 5-0 regionally, lead the region with the highest hitting percentage at .549%. The Talons also have several top individuals in the region, according to the NJCAA Region 4 website:
- Shelbi Marx leads the region in 7.38 kills per set
- Cassie Cooley has the highest hitting percentage at .857%,
- Katie Klassy has 2.38 blocks per set
- Jada Anderson has 1.50 services aces per set
- Carly Castellano has 13.00 assists per set
The Talons will compete on the road against Kishwaukee Community College at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, then travel to the Waubonsee Chiefs Tournament in Sugar Grove, Illinois, from Friday-Saturday, Sept. 19-20. On Friday, they will face Waubonsee at 11 a.m. and Sandburg at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the Talons face Highland at 9 a.m. and Sauk Valley at 11 a.m.
