The Talons competed in the Tri-Match Tournament at Malcolm X College in Chicago from Friday-Saturday, Aug. 29-30, and came home with two wins among three matches.
On Friday, the team dominated against Malcolm X College. The game results were 19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-13, 15-13.
Cassie Cooley and Shelbi Marx had the most kills while Mikaela Hoffman and Carly Castellano contributed with defense and assists.
“It was a well fought game by all players to give the Talons a win,” said Talons Coach Brandy Salonga.
On Saturday, the women competed against Wilbur Wright College and notched another win with scores of 25-17, 25-11, 25-18.
Katie Klassy had an average of 2.33 kills per set and 1.33 blocks per set, and Mikaela Hoffman had 4.7 digs per set and kept rallies going to help the Talons win.
The Talons closed out the tournament against the College of Lake County Lancers, who swept the tournament. This was the team’s only loss with scores of 9-25, 16-25, 15-25.
“Abbi Kerwan was a beast in this game with the leading amount of kills,” Salonga said.
The women compete Tuesday, Sept. 2 against Bryant & Stratton College and host their first home game on Friday, Sept. 5 versus Wilbur Wright College.
